In recent years, head-mounted display devices utilizing augmented reality (AR) and mixed reality (MR), technologies that can superimpose virtual information over real space, have made rapid progress toward practical use in various industrial fields. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. has been promoting the development of technologies that can superimpose 3D models over actual large products or complex structures, such as aircraft, ships, and plants, with high accuracy, as well as user interface technologies suitable for on-site operations. In addition, MHI is working on standardizing and platformizing AR/MR environments, aiming to apply and expand these technologies to various products. This report presents two application examples utilizing these technologies: marking work for chill placement on mold patterns, and operations to determine the weight and center of gravity of ships. It also describes how these contribute to improved efficiency and quality of on-site operations.
