X-2 Advanced Technology Demonstrator

X-2 is an indigenous experimental aircraft for testing advanced airframe and engine technologies, including stealth and high maneuverable technologies, that are expected to be applied to Future Fighter aircraft (F-X).
Prior research began in 2000, when development of F-2 fighter was completed. Aircraft development began in 2009, with the first flight on April 22, 2016 and delivery to Acquisition, Technology and Logistics Agency (ATLA) on June 13 of the same year. Since then, flight tests have been conducted by ATLA to confirm the feasibility of advanced technologies in actual environments and to verify their operational effectiveness toward the development of F-X. In addition, over 200 Japanese companies have participated in the development of X-2, which has contributed greatly to maintaining and further strengthening our country's aviation industrial technology base.
