"Corporate Forestry Program" Activities

Every year since 2009, the Sagamihara Machinery Works has taken part in a program implemented by Kanagawa Prefecture to develop forests as local water sources, participating as a partner in forest revitalization. Activities involve forest conservation and nature appreciation, all targeted at raising employees'awareness of the importance of preserving the natural environment.

On February 4, four employees who joined MHI Group this fiscal year took part in "Corporate Forestry Program" activities in a forest located in the Nagatake area of Sagamihara City's Midori-ku. First, the employees were given an explanation by a Kanagawa Prefecture official concerning the local forestry conservation program. Next, the employees undertook tree thinning under the guidance of experts in forestry. The work was physically demanding for the participants, but the experience gave them a keen sense of the importance of the natural environment and also enabled them to make a positive contribution to local environmental protection.

To date, the Sagamihara Machinery Works has participated in this corporate forestry program 23 times, to heighten employees'awareness toward protection of the natural environment. During the current fiscal year (April 2018 to March 2019), including previous sessions last August and October, a total of 42 employees and their family members took part in the program.

Going forward, MHI Group will continue to proactively engage in community-based social contribution activities based on the CSR Action Guidelines “Care for the planet" and “Create a more harmonious society."
