Since fiscal 2013, in line with its CSR Action Guidelines and its commitments to "create a more harmonious society" and "inspire the future," MHI Group has supported the Shiki Theatre Company's "Kokoro no Gekijo" (Theater of the Heart) musical productions aimed at cultivating a richness of spirit among children of the next generation across Japan. Group employees, as well as their family members, regularly assist as volunteers at the troupe's performances near their workplaces.

Between October 1 and 5, the Shiki Theatre Company gave 8 performances of "Majorin Who Threw Away Magic" at NTK Hall (Forest Hall) in Nagoya. The shows were enjoyed by a total of some 15,700 sixth graders from 219 elementary schools in the city. In addition, between October 23 and 26, another 8 performances of the same show were given in the Main Auditorium of Fukuoka Civic Hall in Fukuoka, Kyushu, here seen by approximately 14,000 sixth graders from 143 schools in the city. A total of 6 MHI Group employees assisted as volunteers at these performances, helping to guide and usher the young guests to their seats.

"Majorin Who Threw Away Magic" is an original story about a witch named Majorin who, from her interaction with human beings, comes to understand the warmth and compassion imbued in the words "thank you." From this lesson, Majorin learns the importance of kindness, friendship and courage in everyday life. It is hoped that from this show young children will cultivate their richness of spirit.

Going forward, through various opportunities MHI Group will continue to actively support the development of the children of the next generation.
