Tokyo, April 6, 2009 - Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) and the shareholders of Maintenance Partners NV (MP) of Belgium have reached an agreement under which Mitsubishi Power Systems Europe, Ltd. (MPSE), a subsidiary company of MHI, headquartered in London, U.K., acquires 100 % of the shares in Maintenance Partners NV.

Through this acquisition, MHI/MPSE will add an additional feature of power generation services, providing the full-scope engineering and repair capabilities only an OEM service organization can provide – including component manufacturing, state-of-the-art diagnostics, field inspection and service, outage management and 24-hour technical support. State-of-the-art combustion turbine repair center will be constructed in the Middle East region providing the latest in technology for D/E and F class combustion turbines, and available even for G class in near future.

As a group company of MHI, Maintenance Partners - under its own name - will continue and expand its activities. The synergies between the two enterprises will offer current and new customers in Europe, the Middle East and Africa ("EMENA") an unsurpassed high level of quality and reliability in the field of duty and heavy-duty rotating machines.

"By teaming up with MHI, we will be able to offer our customers the best of both worlds: top quality rotating machines and top quality maintenance, repair, revision and spare parts. This will result in an unsurpassed level of reliability with regard to electrical and mechanical rotating machines. Through the acquisition we are becoming to our customers an even better partner to guarantee the reliability of their machines," said Johan De Coster, CEO, and Wim Schelfaut, COO of MP.

"By acquiring MP, we are now able to offer our customers in the EMENA area a total package that goes beyond the mere supply of top of the range machines, but also offers them certainty about the entire life cycle, including maintenance, repair and spare parts, and certified reliability. This investment will dramatically enhance its ongoing power generation service and component repair operations," said Yoshihiro Tsuchiyama, Deputy General Manager of Power Systems Business Strategy & Planning Department, MHI, and Eiji Akita, Vice President of Service Development, MPSE.

This acquisition will also have favorable consequences for employment. In order to be able to offer the necessary service & support to the current projects of MHI / MPSE in the EMENA area, MP will attract extra workers in the years to come, ranging from engineers and technicians to mechanics, electricians, metalworkers etc. To achieve this, the company will strengthen the collaboration with technical schools in the country. MP has good experiences with training young people leaving school. The company has its own school where staff receives education and training.

The management and staff of MP stay in function and will guarantee the customers seamless continuity and further expansion of the activities.
