July 24, 2025
Hiroki Machida of the Welding & Assembling Team, Rotor Production Section, Production Division, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Compressor Corporation, won the Special Excellence Award in the shielded metal arc welding category at the 68th Hiroshima Welding Technology Competition. The competition is held annually with the aim of improving the skills of welders, and this year 11 people from arc welding divisions of local companies participated.
Comment from Machida
My heartfelt thanks to everyone who allowed me time to practice for the competition, helped me with operations, and came to cheer me on. This was my fourth time competing, and I am very pleased to have been awarded my first Special Excellence Award. My hands were shaking from the nerves, and I was not able to weld as well as I would have liked, but I applied what I learned from my senior colleagues during practice and am satisfied with the results. I could not have received this award without all of your help. Never forgetting my gratitude, I will continue to strive to improve my welding skills.
Congratulatory message from General Manager Yohei Fuchigami
Congratulations on receiving the Special Excellence Award. The reward is proof of your daily hard work, and I am very proud of you. While this reward is the result of Machida’s own work, I am confident it will motivate his team members and lead to further development. Let’s leverage the experience and results of this contest in our work and pass on the knowledge and skills to younger employees to improve the entire worksite. I look forward to seeing your continued success, fueled by your unwavering passion and ambition.
