Tamachi Building Co. Hosts Potato Dig by Local Nursery School Children at Company's Rooftop Garden
--CSR Activity Provides an Enjoyable Opportunity to Learn about Growing Healthy Food and Safeguarding the Environment--

The venue for the event was the roof of the Dai Ichi Tamachi Building, which is situated directly across from East Japan Railway's Tamachi Station in Minato-ku. The rooftop of the main building is home to a garden 219 square meters in area, of which 21.5 square meters is used as a vegetable garden. The invitees on this occasion were 23 children aged 3 to 5 attending the local Petit Nursery Tamachi. In late March the children had planted potatoes here, and after some three months the potato crop was ready for harvesting. The children first received explanations from the Tamachi Building employee in charge about how potatoes grow and how to correctly dig them out of the ground. Then, with assistance from their teachers and Tamachi Building employees, the children excitedly began harvesting, punctuated by squeals of delight at their achievement and also at the various insects encountered in the process. All in all, the occasion provided an enjoyable time atop this tall building that the children see every day.
