Every year since 2009, the Sagamihara Machinery Works has taken part in a program implemented by Kanagawa Prefecture to develop forests as local water sources, participating as a partner in forest revitalization. Activities involve forest conservation and nature appreciation, all targeted at raising employees' awareness of the importance of preserving the natural environment.

On October 24, eight employees who joined MHI Group this fiscal year took part in "Corporate Forestry Program" activities in a forest located in the Nagatake area of Sagamihara City's Midori-ku. First, the employees were given an explanation by Kanagawa Prefecture officials concerning the local forestry preservation program carried out with corporate participation. The employees then performed tree thinning work under the safety guidance of instructors specialized in forestry, who also taught them how to use the tools required.

Through their participation and the hands-on experience gained from this experience, the employees came away with a renewed awareness of the importance of protecting the natural environment. They also deepened their understanding of the indispensable need for continuous human intervention and assistance to ensure the sustained health of communities rich in natural beauty.

Going forward, MHI Group will continue to proactively engage in community-based social contribution activities based on its CSR Action Guidelines "Care for the planet" and "Create a more harmonious society."
