ABOUT US
From The President's Desk
In 1996, MHI established a group of independent contractors to work inside Bombardier's factory to conduct the final completion and any outstanding work on products manufactured and shipped from Japan, and the beginnings of MHICA was born. However, it wasn't until 2006 that MHICA was officially incorporated as a business in Ontario.
In 2007, a 90,000 sq. ft. facility was acquired and work commenced on the prefit of Global Wings to Centre Fuselage and Systems Installation for product supplied by MHI Nagoya. In 2008, Challenger 300 Wing Assembly and Systems Installation was transferred to Canada. By 2012, we had outgrown our Meadowvale facility and moved here to Northwest Drive with 270,000 sq. ft. of space! With this move, came the transfer of the Global 5000/6000 Wing Major Assembly to Canada. By 2013, we needed still more space, and an additional 70,000 sq. ft. facility was established to house our Supply Chain and Logistics Centre.
Now celebrating 11 years incorporated as MHI Canada Aerospace, Inc., we reflect on who we are a proud group of employees who come together daily, committed, hard-working and dedicated to the values and goals of MHICA. We are the benefactors of the great aerospace legacy that came before us in Ontario and we are the builders of the future a worthy gift to leave our children and future generations of aerospace workers!
What we do
MHI Canada Aerospace, Inc. facilities include a 270,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art manufacture and assembly facility and a supply chain and logistics centre, where more than 700 highly-skilled employees are working on Bombardier's sector-leading Global 5000/6000 and Challenger 350 business aircraft. MHICA's technicians build and join wing assemblies and fuselage centre sections, as well as perform systems and flight control assembly installations and testing.
Building complex aircraft structures at the highest level requires a full and well-managed inventory. MHICA's 70,000 sq. ft. logistics centre ensures the stable and on-time delivery of materials, sub-assemblies and tooling needed for continuous and fluid assembly. Our Supply Chain and Logistics Centre sources materials and manages more than 30 supply chain partners from across North America. MHICA conducts quality control and inspections of incoming components and materials, assemblies work kits and warehouses the inventory that keeps our assembly facility running smoothly.
MHICA's dedicated people, extensive experience, demonstrated efficiency and world-class facilities contribute to Bombardier Aerospace's success as a world-class aerospace leader, enabling them to be atop of the aerospace world in the business and commercial aircraft design and production.
MHICA continues to work with parent company Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), a global leader whose work on major aircraft structural component projects represents the future of the industry. MHI's assembly contracts include the Boeing line of commercial airliners and the Mitsubishi Regional Jet. MHICA's well-earned reputation for capacity and capability positions us a leader in major aircraft structure assembly in an ever-expanding sector.
Our Journey of Growth
In 1996, MHI established a working party with independent contractors in Bombardier Inc. factory to conduct final completion of products manufactured and delivered from Japan.
In 2006, MHI decided to strategically grow the operation in Canada and incorporated MHI Canada Aerospace, Inc. in Ontario.
In 2007, MHICA acquired an 90K sq. ft. facility in the City of Mississauga to perform the wing-to-fuselage pre-fit and systems installation Global Business Jet for Bombardier Inc..
Since then, MHICA has continuously expanded it’s work statement including the wings and fuselage major assembling of multiple aircraft platforms and parts sourcing.
During that expansion, MHICA opened and moved to a larger 270K sq. ft. custom built facility in Malton in 2012. In addition, MHICA opened new facility of additional 200K sq. ft. in 2019 to improve the logistics efficiency and obtain more capacity to support further business opportunities.
