Renewal of the License Agreement for Mitsubishi UE Engine with Licensees in Japan

Tokyo, Japan, April 13th, 2016 - Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Marine Machinery & Engine Co., Ltd. (MHI-MME), Kobe Diesel Co., Ltd. (Kobe Diesel) and Akasaka Diesels Ltd. (Akasaka) have respectively renewed their License Agreement for Mitsubishi UE Engine as of April 1st, 2016.

Mitsubishi UE Engine is the only brand in Japan for two-stroke low speed diesel engine which was developed and manufactured by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. as its own technology.

Since Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. made a License Agreement with Kobe Diesel in 1957 and with Akasaka in 1960, a good relationship between licensor and licensees have been built aiming for an expansion of Mitsubishi UE Engine market share.

After MHI-MME was launched as a company dedicated to marine machinery and marine diesel engine business as of October 1st, 2013, MHI-MME, together with its licensees, has released new engines, LSE and LSH series of UE Engine with a high efficiency and high reliability.

MHI-MME, Kobe Diesel and Akasaka have enhanced the sales promotions focusing on the strategic engines, and as a result of such sales activities, 17 orders of UEC50LSH-Eco-C2 for Kobe Diesel and 13 orders of UEC33LSE-C2 / 35LSE-Eco-B2 for Akasaka have been piled up in a short period and also prospecting numbers of new promising projects are ongoing at present.

Taking this opportunity of the renewal of License Agreement, MHI-MME will strength the partnership with Kobe Diesel and Akasaka, and MHI-MME will further focus on the sales promotion of latest engine such as LSE and LSH series aiming for the expansion of UE market share, including latest technologies such as the low pressure EGR system and low pressure SCR system which are to comply with IMO's NOx Tier III regulations.
