The first day, the participants visited the Marunouchi Head Office, where they were first given an overview of MHI Group, including an introduction to its corporate communication activities and human resources development. Next, they took part in a workshop on the topic of branding. Here, discussions were held on how schools should go about making their particular points of attraction widely known. The teachers also listened to a talk on human resources development, where opinions were exchanged concerning the type of people who are most in demand today.
On the second day, the teachers visited Mitsubishi Minatomirai Industrial Museum in Yokohama, attended a talk on how MHI Group develops the next generation, and took part in a group work session on CSR (corporate social responsibility). Through this agenda, the participants acquired a deeper understanding of the activities performed by private enterprises.
On the third and final day, the participants traveled to Sagamihara (Kanagawa Prefecture) to visit the factory of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Engine & Turbocharger, Ltd. (MHIET). Here, they observed "monozukuri" - the traditional Japanese concept of craftsmanship - in action. They also received an introduction to some of the company's various initiatives with respect to safety education and its commendation system to boost employee motivation, and they exchanged opinions with employees. Closing out the day, the teachers were all asked to describe how they intended to apply what they had gleaned from the training program to their actual school and classroom operation.
On completion of the program, the teachers offered a variety of comments. One noted that he had acquired a deeper understanding of what kinds of strength students will need when they start working in the future. Another voiced how impressed she was to see employees diligently perform their jobs while considering how to convey to society their company's specific activities and strengths. One teacher expressed the new realization that, at their core, schools and businesses are alike. And another remarked on having reaffirmed the satisfaction to be had from developing human resources of the next generation.
Going forward, MHI Group will continue to engage in exchanges with a broad array of stakeholders and support the development of the next generation in keeping with its commitment, delineated in the CSR Action Guidelines, to "inspire the future."
