MOL Comfort Containership Incident Update (No.2)

On June 18 Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) announced that the MOL Comfort, a containership under its operation, had become unable to travel under its own power during inclement weather in the Indian Ocean and subsequently fractured in half at the center, the two sections remaining afloat. MOL has been continually issuing updates on the ship's status.

Immediately after receiving notification of the incident, MHI set up a special task force led by Hisashi Hara, head of the Shipbuilding & Ocean Development Headquarters. The task force is now working closely with MOL to investigate and determine the cause of the incident and to devise a strategy plan for dealing with the vessel's current situation.
