Every year since 2008, members of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd.’s (MHI) Group companies have participated in the “Furusato Cleanup” events held in locations near their workplaces. This program was launched in line with MHI’s CSR (corporate social responsibility) Action Guidelines for forging solid ties with both the Earth and society at large.

In the Kobe District, twice every year, in June and October, employees take part in voluntary cleaning in the area around the Kobe Shipyard & Machinery Works. On October 24, approximately 760 Group employees working at the Kobe Shipyard used their lunch break to perform cleanup activities in the surrounding area, including around the nearby railway station and the local shopping street. The event was the 29th carried out to date.

Under clear skies, the participants, trash bags in hand, picked up trash, dead leaves and other debris in street gutters, roadside shrubbery, etc. This time the quantity was considerable as the event took place soon after a typhoon. By collecting these unsightly items, the employees made a valuable contribution to protecting their local environment.

Through activities of this kind rooted in the local community, the MHI Group will continue to play a proactive role in creating and maintaining a beautiful environment as its way of making positive contributions to society.
